The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has said that it is ready to roll out the TraffiTech-GH digital traffic enforcement system on Sunday, November 1, 2026, with cameras to be deployed to detect speeding and issue electronic violation notices to vehicle owners.

The department’s Director of Education, Research and Training, ACP Alexander Kwaku Obeng, said all preparations had been completed for the commencement of the system, which will initially focus on speeding offences at locations associated with road crashes.
Speaking on the News Digest on Saturday, October 31, 2026, ACP Obeng said the new system would allow police to gather evidence digitally without stopping drivers, impounding their vehicles or taking them to police stations and motor courts.Ghana News Subscription
“Tomorrow, 1st November, we are set, everything is ready, and we are taking off,” he said.
Under the system, cameras mounted in police vehicles and on tripods will capture speeding violations. The MTTD will then process the evidence and send electronic notices through text messages to the owners of the vehicles registered with the department.
The messages, which will carry the sender identification GPS MTTD, will include a link through which vehicle owners can view video evidence of the alleged violation, including the date, time and location.
ACP Obeng said vehicle owners would have 14 days to decide whether to pay the prescribed fine or contest the offence in court.
He said the digital enforcement system would operate alongside the existing manual approach, although the department intended to scale down roadside arrests using handheld radar guns for speeding offences.
The MTTD director said the system would initially target drivers exceeding speed limits of 50 kilometres per hour in towns, 90 kilometres per hour on highways and 100 kilometres per hour on motorways.
He stressed that TraffiTech-GH was specifically designed to address speeding and would not replace manual enforcement of other road traffic offences.
ACP Obeng added that the department had engaged transport stakeholders and conducted public education ahead of the rollout, saying many operators preferred the digital process because it would spare drivers the inconvenience of being arrested and taken to police stations and courts.
The announcement comes amid a threat by commercial transport operators to suspend services nationwide from November 1 in protest against the planned implementation of the system.
